The YMCA of the Highland Lakes at Galloway Hammond is now accepting applications for Swim Team Coach.  This is an exciting career opportunity to grow a historic and iconic program for the YMCA of the Highland Lakes at Galloway Hammond, which is located in Burnet, TX, just 35 miles north of historic Austin, Texas.  The Y at Highland Lakes has an annual budget of $1.1 million and over 1,000 membership units.  The facility has 60,000 square feet of programmed space, a junior Olympic indoor pool, cardio theatre, two group exercise rooms, large wellness center and 5 acres of sports fields. The Y at Highland Lakes has some exciting opportunities that this position will play a key part of including: an aggressive growth campaign; a plan to increase member involvement and launch new programs, and a need to reach out to underserved communities. 

 

Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director, the Swim Team Coach will oversee and manage the swim team, and team events while promoting Aquatics programs and services for the YMCA of GWC.  The Swim Team Coach will initiate, develop and maintain positive relationships with participants, members, parents and volunteers providing a high level of customer service. Creates a safe, inviting and educational experience for all and ensures the safe operation of all aquatics facilities.  This will include an indoor pool/aquatics center, and/or contracted city or community pools.

Skills / Requirements

Candidate must be at least 21 years of age. The successful candidate in this position will possess strong communication and program developmental skills, be outgoing, a self-starter, and be able to multi-task. Bachelor degree preferred, or related experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. Must be USA coaching certified, Lifeguard/Swim Instructor Certified and be CPR/First Aid certified. Certified Pool Operator would be a plus.  Employee must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License, have reliable transportation and show proof of insurance. 

 

Reference checks, criminal history background check, Sex Offender Registry check, and pre-employment drug screen is required for all hired applicants.

 

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

 

  • Teach group and private swim lessons
  • Develop and implement team practice program with goals and schedule
  • Organize promote and coach year round swim team programs, including customer relations and recovery
  • Organize, promote and manage TAAF program, various swim meets and coach swim team

**MINIMUM REQUIRED ABILITIES and QUALIFICATIONS**

Success in this position requires minimum 1 year experience coaching swim teams and teaching swim lessons. Ability to trouble-shoot or diagnose concerns of members and volunteers. Ability to actively cultivate and partner with volunteers across the organization to ensure that programs, classes and services meet and exceed members’ expectations.   Must have good interpersonal, public relations, and communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with members, staff, peers, volunteers, and leadership.  Ability to effectively communicate general information on YMCA Programs.  Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations. Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Current certifications or ability to acquire certifications in CPR, First Aid, and CPO (Certified Pool Operator) required.
